Ant Pest Control

Spending time outside is fun, but ants can interrupt any outdoor activity – not just your picnic. And it’s even worse when they come inside. Once ants have invaded, they can be very difficult to kill completely. Ants colonize in a variety of places, and there are several species in Arkansas and Oklahoma. West Termite, Pest & Lawn is experienced with ant pest control and offers several remedies to get rid of all types of ants.

The West Termite, Pest & Lawn Process

Pest Control Company

Step 1: Inspection

One of our licensed exterminators will take a look to determine the level of infestation and the kinds of ants present. Then, we will create a customized plan to remove any established colonies and prevent future infestations from taking hold. While the extermination plan for your specific home or business may vary, these steps are typically part of our process.

Step 2: Secure the Perimeter

During our assessment, we will identify any areas of your home or business that need to be secured. Then, we will create barriers to prevent ants from coming inside. This can include caulking to seal doorways, thresholds, windows, and trim.

Step 3: Remove Food Sources

This is an important step in the extermination process, especially for ants. Our team will identify food sources that you may not realize are accessible to ants, so that these foods may be stored off of the ground and in sealed containers.

Step 4: Remove Indoor Ants

We strategically place the right kind of ant traps and/or baits to kill the ants inside your home or business. Depending on the species of ants infesting your home, we may use sugar-based or protein-based ant baits. Different baits attract different kinds of ants. Baits may be gels or granules laid out directly or housed inside station-style traps.

Step 5: Locate and Exterminate the Colony

The technician will follow the ants back to their colony and treat it directly with repellent. These steps and ant remedies, along with regularly scheduled inspections to maintain and provide follow-up treatments as needed, will work together to prevent future infestations.

What to Expect with West Termite, Pest & Lawn

What if I already have ant problems?

If you already have an ant pest control problem, you should hire a professional exterminator. Once you notice an ant colony, it can be hard to remove on your own. The traps and pesticides you can buy at the store aren’t strong enough for a total infestation.

Dealing with Ants

Essential oils may be used to repel ants – but they do not kill them or destroy their colony. And you need to be sure any colonies have been killed completely to keep ants out for good. Exterminating ant colonies requires specialized chemicals that are only available to trained professionals because they are toxic and hazardous to handle.

Frequently Asked Ant Questions

Do ants pose health risks?

Yes. Many types of ants can bite or sting, and other kinds of ants may carry disease and bacteria into your home. For example, Pharaoh Ants can carry Salmonella and Streptococcus and are known for invading hospitals. Imported Fire Ants can be highly aggressive, and each one is equipped with a large stinger. When their mound is disturbed, several may attack at one time, both biting and stinging. Some people may experience an allergic reaction requiring immediate medical attention. Carpenter Ants, while less aggressive than Red Imported Fire Ants, can also deliver a painful bite as a defense mechanism.

What kinds of ants live in Arkansas and Oklahoma?

Red Imported Fire Ants are well known as a potentially dangerous type of ant whose bite can be very painful and may cause serious health problems, especially for children and animals. Other types of ants include Acrobat Ants, Argentine Ants, Carpenter Ants, European Fire Ants, Ghost Ants, Little Black Ants, Little Fire Ants, Odorous House Ants, Pharaoh Ants, Rover Ants, and Tawny (Raspberry) Crazy Ants.

What attracts ants?

Different environments and food sources attract different kinds of ants. Warm, humid areas of a home near food, such as behind large appliances, baseboards, behind walls, and underneath floorboards can provide an attractive place for Pharaoh Ants to nest. Tawny (Raspberry) Crazy Ants can be attracted to electrical equipment and automobiles, where they can cause thousands of dollars of damage if left unchecked. Carpenter Ants tend to nest in decaying or hollow wood, such as fallen trees, tree stumps, and woodpiles, especially wood that has been previously damaged by water.
